We are running Windows 2000 on the desktop and just upgraded to Office 2003. Ever since the upgrade, Word and Excel attachments in Outlook 2003 take a long time to open.

Doesn't appear to be size related, some are 20k other are 2mb.

any suggestions?

You may need to install the MS Office Service Pack for MS Outlook mentioned in this article and/or Disable Instant Messaging: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290025&Product=ol2002

Beyond that, my first guess was anti-virus software like Norton Corporate Edition operating in "real-time" mode. Try switching off real-time.
